DOCTOR CLAIMS DAMAGES

A verdiot for £25 damages was given by the jury, in the Supreme Court in a case in which Dr. Richard Walter Richards claimed £2000 damages for alleged libel from "Sun" newspapers, Auckland, in respect of a report, and its headings, published by the AucklandV'Sun"' last August, of a civil action taken by the plaintiff against the Australasian Temperance and General Mutual Life Assurance Society, Ltd., for alleged slander. It was claimed that the headings and the report were misleading and untrue. Mr. A. Gray, K.C., and Mr. 3. S. Hanna appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. H. V. O'Leary for "Sun" Newspapers. The following day similar proceedings were >ken by Dr. Richards against New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd., but in this case the jury returned a verdict for the defendant. Mr. F. Spratt and Mr. Wilson appeared for New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd.
