LOCAL ACTIVITIES

Civic bodies in and around Wellington are actively engaged in raising funds for the relief of Hawkes Bay people. \ The Island Bay Municipal Electors' Association is convening a mooting to be held at Island Bay on Tuesday evening. Mr. N. A. Ingram is tho organiser. The Brooklyn Municipal Electors' | Association is to hold a meeting in the j Brooklyn School on Monday evening. ! A meeting was held at, Eastbourne last evening, when the Eastbourne and Day's Bay districts were' divided into sections for the purpose of canvassing for funds. The borough council donated £100, the council employees £25, and about £50 was collected at the meeting. At a meeting held at'Plimmerton last evening, a committee was set up. A ladies' sewing committee was formed to make canvas bags. In. response to the Mayor's request, the Civic League has undertaken to supervise the distribution of relief fund subscription lists to the .various Kate-J payers' Associations, in Wellington, and j invites their immediate co-operaton to this appeal. :
