BRILLIANT BALL

PRINCE GEORGE AS PATRON

At a recent Persian ball held in London most of Mayf air's well-known women took part in a fifteenth-century "mime." It was a pageant of lovely gowns and spectacular tableaux. The Begum Aga Khan appeared in a wonderful frock designed for her by Mr. Eobin d'Erlanger (states the "Daily Mail"). Scintillating paillettes of deep-sea green, sewn closely together on a paler green foundation, fashioned the dross, and, to throw up tho beauty of the colouring, panels like large pears were introduced in a much darker tone. It followed the lines of the Begum's graceful figure, the beautifully moulded corsage being cut lower at tho back than in front, and there was a sweeping train, several yards long, which widened as it spread itself out. On her nutbrown hair the Begum wore a boucletto headdress to match her gown. Most of the pretty women in tho younger social set appeared in the prologue and in bleaux of the pageant. Lady Diana Cooper, trailing misty draperies, was "Dusk" in a group which included "Sunset," "Twilight," and "Stars." Mi's. Kobin d'Erlanger, who organised the ball, with Prince George as patron, had an effective night-blue gown decorated with golden symbols for her character of "Night." Miss Valeric French was "Sleet," Lady Ashley the "Bainbow," and the Countess of Seaficld "Twilight." All the frocks were copied from an illuminated manuscript in the British Museum.
