EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

WOMEN'S COMMITTEE

It was arranged at tho general meeting of citizens convened at the Town Hall yesterday by the Mayor for tUe purpose of organising relief effort? on behalf of the stricken people of the earthquake area, to sot up a committee of women to take over tho operations connected with the collection of clothing for refugees billeted in tho -city and suburbs. A large group of women immediately met under the chairmanship of the Mayoress, Mrs. Troup, and a strong committee representative of all the women.'s societies of Wellington was formed, with Mrs. T. E. Corkill as convener, and Mrs. W. S. Austin and Miss Stella Froedman as honorary secretary and assistant secretary, respectively. The membership comprises the following: Lady Myers, Mosdames B. B. Wood, E. W. Kane, A. Gray, Hadfield, Snow, Field, Nash, Semple, Hay, M'Keen, Pearson, Johannes Andersen, Preston, Henry Hall, Brown, O'Sbea, Lawn, Preshaw, Parson, Stevenson, Bennie, Molem, Chisholni, Hargreaves, Dexton, Redgrave, Tait, Paetz, Parton, Murphy, Chatfield; Misses Troup, Hall, Boyd, Van Staveren, Tanner, Myers, Ralston (2), Kane, Butts,' and Sister Dixon. A most urgent call is made for clothing generally, either used or new, as well as for blankets and old linen, which should be sent to the clothing depot at the Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall. Intending donors are desired to bear in mind tho special needs of infants.
