TRIAL FOR RAILWAY

HUNTING CRY IN BEST FORM

Hunting Cry, having his first race since he won 'on the final day of the A.J.C. Spring Meeting at Raudwiek in September, outclassed the field that opposed him in the Railway Handicap, the open sprint at Woodville yesterday. He followed 'Xaranto into the straight, and when given his head shot np to the front in a short space, untroubled by his weight, and came on to win from Royal Parade with the greatest of ease by a length and a half. There can be no doubting that he has retained all his old three-year-old brilliance, and he will be one of the hardest to beat on Boxing Day in the A.R.C. Railway Handicap, a race he won last year. He is also in the Auckland Cup, but the sprint would appear to be his mission.

Royal Parade, who was second, managed tp lead Keddar home only by half a neck. He was the first to break the line, but $c drifted over the first half of the jourjjpy, and was behind Taranto, Hunting Gry, and Dobbin as they swung into the fie finished on stoutlyi but ijprer had a chance with the winner. His turn, will come when champions are missing, probably during the holidays. Ked4ar followed Royal Parade into the straight, and was probably doing his work Setter.-it-.the end. Dobbin was a good fourth,/ and Broad. Acre was next. Taranto made. a big; break,on the field early, but closed up'in .the straight, arid was last Except Briar Root to finished. Hunting Cry was a £150 better favour-. $c than Eoyaf Parade, with Broad Acre the only other in any demand. Hunting Ory was the fifth favourite in five races to succeed, his dividend being just a little better than the hurdle winner, Easterly's.
