PRESBYTERY'S RESOLUTION
"■At:'its monthly nioetiug the Wellington Presbytery dealt with a statement, on Church. Union, which the General Ap-i sembly's committee, under the convenership of the liev. J. R. Blauehard, had seufc pi.it to.Presbyteries fortheiv opinion. Tlie Wellington Presbytery unanimously gave its general approval to the statement. Among other matters, the statement -emphasises the fact that at the. foundation of .the World Alliance of Churches Holding the Presbyterian Order, it was declared that, the alliance was founded with the object of finding "'a basis in our .common historic faith and order, not as an end in itself, but as a beginning towards ;i ' larger re-union." The further fact is stressed that "tho essential spirit and pnr■pose of the -Presbyterian Church" was '.that- "permanent separation must not be 'regarded as being, in accordance with the purpose of God for His Church on earth." It was further unanimously decided by the Wellington Presbytery, that its recommendation to assembly be that conversations be initiated between the Presbyterian, Methodist, and Congregational Churches, with a view to corporate 'union, on. the understanding'that such union be not regarded as an end in itself, but as a . stop towards "a still larger reunion.
