CANADIAN BUTTER POLITICS

(Received 11th December, 12.15 p.m.) TORONTO, 10th December. "So long as the ring of four big creameries were doing all the butter importing from New Zealand, there was no com.plaint, but as soon as this butter started coming iv on consignment to other dealers, who sold it at lowev prices than the ring, then the country heard from coast to coast a howl against New Zealand butter," stated Mrs. Agnes Macphail, a woman member of the Canadian House of Commons, in addressing the United Farmers' Association. (Received 11th December, 12.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, 10th December. A statement from Mr. H. H. Stevens' office on Tuesday said that the Minister of Trade and Commerce was in receipt of a cablegram from Melbourne from Mr. F. M. Forde, Acting-Minister of Customs, stating that no further shipments of butter would be authorised pending the conclusion of the conference witli Mr. Parker Moloney next week. Mr. Stevens's statement adds that "from this it will be seen that the Federal Government is co-operating with the Canadian Government. It is hoped that on conclusion of the conference with Mr. Moloney a satisfactory adjustment of the whole ques- i tjon will be achieved."
