WOOL SALES

CHRISTCHURCH TO-MORROW

(Received 11th December, 0.40 a.m.) ■ LONDON, 10th December. There were no wool sales to-day on account of fog, and all business has been postponed.

■ Christchurch sales open at 9 a.m. tomorrow with a catalogue of under 17,1500 bales, although the limit fixed by the New inland AVoob Committee is 22,000 bales. 'Xhe following are tbe catalogues and order of sale: — Bales. National Mortgage. 1362 IST.Z.' Farmers' Co-operative 2563 Pyne, Gould, Guinnerss 2952 Dalgety and Co 4511 HJ- Matson and Co 1523 2C.Z. Loan and Mercantile 1155 '.Total 17,396 The wool to be offered is described as chiefly fine wools with a big proportion of hogget wool, generally in light condition. Last season's wool included in the offering is in some cases rather discoloured. A-proportion o£ the new wool is said to be- a little tender owing to the hard spring, in which there was much cold weather and lack of sufficient feed. Halfbred wool forms the bulk of the catalogues, and a fair' proportion of this comes. from the downs country stations. There is very little merino offering, as the back-country stations have not completed shearing. Farmers who held their wool over from last season, owing to the low prices ruliDg, have in most cases allowed their clips. to be catalogued for next Friday. A few, however, are of the opinion that prices will improve, and they have decided to hold their clip. In \naking comparison ot' prices to be realised at the Ohristchurch sales to-morrow it should be' noted that Christchurch, Timaru, and TJunedin are the fine wool centres of the Dominion, and it is estimated that about 80 ' per cent, of Canterbury's annual offering is over 50's quality.

Messrs. Dalgety and Company report, Jjondon, 10th December: — "London Wool Sales.—No wool sales liave been held to-day owing to thick fog. Jf 'it should not bo postponed further, Kales will close on Saturday, but if further fog the closing date will be extended to 16th December."
