The Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) returned to Wellington this morning. He later presided at a meeting of Cabinet and was welcomed by his colleagues, who expressed delight at the fact that Mr. Ransom had recovered from his indisposition. Mr. J. A. M'Pherson, M.P. for Oainaru, is visiting Wellington. Mr. J. J. M' Grath, who underwent an, operation recently, has recovered sufficiently., to return to his home. Mr. W. Dyer, who has; been appointed to tho Petone Technical High. School to represent the Wellington Education Board, was cordially welcomed by tho chairman, Mr. D.'M'Kenzie, at a meeting of the Technical School Board held last evening. : Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Uren (Auckland), Mr. and Mrs, M. ltankiu (Wanganui), Dr. Quartermain (Christchurch)y and. Mr. "W. Blakomore (Onga Onga) are among tho guests at the Empire Hotel. Mr. Kojiro Inoue, Consul-General of Japan for Australia and New Zealand, whose headquarters arc in Sydney, arrived in Wellington this- ■ morning from Auckland on a two days' visit before proceeding to the South Island. The Petone Fire Board at its meeting yesterday expressed its'appreciation, of the services rendered by .Firemen E. Brown and W. Drieberg , while they were members of the brigade. Mr. H. A. Knight,' a member of tha Board of Governors of the Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, and the first student to be enrolled -at the college, at its inception:in 1880, has.been, recommended by the board:- for tha award of tho gold, medal for distinguished cx-studonts, which has been given by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe. His Excellency expressed his intention several months .ago of giving the ni.edal, and since then conditions governing its award have been, drawn up and submitted to him;: Mr. Knight's nomination makes him tho first to Teceive tho honour. If tho medal is ready in time, it' will be 'presented to Mr. Knight on Farmers' Bay, which is to be held at Lincoln College on Tuesday next. . ■ • ■. • .
