G OLDEN HELMET CONTEST.

Among other events to be decided at the Kilbirnie Stadium Speedway on Saturday night is a contest for the Golden Helmet. In this there will be three heats, the winner of each to contest the final. One special feature of the event will be the appearance of two more of Queensland^ noted riders, H. Buchanan and L. Hale. In the first heat of the Golden Helmet contest Hale will meet Wilkinson and Naylor; the second . heat will be coutested by Kilmistcr, Touks, and Ranby; aud in the third heat Buchanan will be opposed by Harvie and Palmer. It is on this track that visiting riders are seen at their best, but on this occasion Kilmister and company, with their machines up to concert pitch, are likely to provide tough opposition for. the Australians. Handicap racing is stated to bo a particularly strong point with Buchanan, and in this section he will have au opportunity of showing his prowess in competition with. Hale aud the best of the local riders. This event will be the Grand Summer Handicap, and for the other local riders there will be the Maranui Handicap, in which- the improvers will be given a chance to demonstrate that their standard is improving. Racing in the open grade should be of a high order, nrirt the keen competition on a good track is likely to account for some very. fast times. The broadsidni.ee, too. should he very f=pepfneiilr,r.
