WOMAN INVESTIGATOR

HUTT VALLEY APPOINTMENT

Th-e appointment of a female unemployment investigating officer for tho Hutt Valley (including Upper Hutt and Eastbourne) has been arranged by tho Wellington Hospital Board. This officer will investigate cases of need in the district, and will work in -conjunction with the Hutt Valley "Unemployment Committee, so that relief shall be thoroughly organised, and undue hardship or overlapping of effort prevented. The Mayor of Petone (Mr. D. M' K<?nzie) reports that the unemployed registered at Petone now number 147— 86 married and 61 single men. In order to assist some of these men before Christmas efforts are being made by the school committees of the district to raise a fund, which will be subsidised by the Unemployment Board, for the formation of a children's play area, a scheme for which was proposed some time ago by Councillor V. Noble. The Hutt County Council, which has little unemployment in its district, will probably absorb a few Petone men.
