KAHIKATOA IS GOOD

DECISIVE WDs IN BOROUGH

Kahikatoa had to bo a good horse to win the Borough Handicap. He was half a dozen horses back when the field settled down, and he still had some leeway to make up at the straight entrance, but

Gray brought him along nicely over the final couple of furlongs, and he responded to all calls to come on to rather easy victory at the end. Heud Serang and Desert Song were first out, but after the field had gone a furlong Te Awha, Queen's Choice, Head Serang, Moutoa Treasury, Desert Song, Kahikatoa, and Full Mark was the order. Te Awha and Queen's Choice led Head Serang, Kahikatoa, and Moutoa Treasury into the straight, but Kahikatoa drew up to the leaders before reaching the distance post, and came on to beat the fast-finishing Kory Mor by a length and a half. Head Serang was three-quarters of a length back third, and Desert Song, Moutoa Treasury,' Atholspoar, Hopwood, and To Awha were ncjet. Head Serang was the best backed horse of the day. and he carried nearly twice as much as Kahikatoa and Atholspear, who carried identical sums. Hopwood was a poor fourth favourite, and Kory Mor was ■at a 'juice for second almost double what the winner paid. Head Serang was accorded every chance, but he was not good enough for his more lightly-weighted rivals. Atholspear came fast over the concluding stages, but he was still a long way -away at the end. Te Awha and Queen's Choice failed to finish on, but Moutoa j Treasury 'went a surprisingly good race,! and her turn is coming soon. Hopwood was always tucked among the bunch, and could not get 'clear.' Mister Gamp was left some lengths at the start.
