KECENT CONFERENCE ! (Special to "The Evening Post.'") AUCKLAND, This Day. ■ In reply to an inquiry to-day the Minister of Education (the Hon. H. Atmore) said that the impression had been created that the recent conference between members of Cabinet and heads of the Departments had been lielcl for the purpose of discussing salaries. That, however, was not tho case. Tho object of the conference was to consider the economic position of tho country generally and the avoidance of unnecessary expenditure in particular. Salaries were not discussed, and an assurance to that effect had been given to organisations which had telegraphed the Government in the.belief that reductions were under consideration at the meeting.
