BUS SERVICES
VOGELTOWJST REQUEST REFUSED In addition to the application of the Railway Department for permission to charge higher fares to and from the Hutt Valley, the City Council last evening considered applications in respect of other suburban services. ; That of Mr. S. A. Crichton for a licence to establish a service between Titahi Bay and the city was declined, but an application from Mr. J. A. Hunter, the holder of the present licence for that run, to place an additional bus on the road was approved. . The council declined the application of Mr. J. A. Peach for permission to establish a service to Plimmerton, and an adverse decision was given on the application made by Messrs. E. H. -and G-. E. King for a service between the city and Vogeltown. Speaking of the latter application, Councillor Wright asked if it was not possible to allow a private firm to run the service if it would guarantee not to run alongside the tram lines, but would come down from Vogeltown, via Tasman and Taranaki streets. It seemed unfair that the people who had been denied a service by the council should bo denied also the transport offered by private enterprise. Councillor Luckie said that the proposal had been carefully considered by the committee, which had every sympathy with the Vogeltown people, but it would compete with the tramway system. They had offered them the right to make it a feeder service, but that had been declined. The committee was recommending the Tramways Department to reconsider the matter and see if something could be done to meet the wishes of the people of Vogeltown. . ' '
