ATTRACTIVE STAKES OFFERED

Although the Marton Jockey Club's Summer Meeting, to be held on Ist and 2nd January^ clashes; with several other North Island fixtures, it should be as well patronised, as ever this, year, for the club has, been enterprising enough to tempt owners with substantial stakes. The Marton Cup has 400 soys allotted to. it, wlile the rider of the winner will recew« a. gold-mounted whip; presented by 36.-. J. On, the second day; the Aldwortl* Stakes, o£ 230 boys, is the: chief: attraction,, the distance- being onemifoand 137' yards. The open sprints art the Railway Handicap, of. 200 soys, and the Telegraph Handicap, of 160 • aovs. There are two other events, for the open class,, the Stewards' Handicap, of. 160 soys, minimum weight 8.0, seven furlongs; and the Turakina Handicap, of 150/ soys, minimum weight 8.0, run over the same distance. Kaces for two and three-year-olds are: Juvenile Handicap, of 130 soys, five furlongs;; and Junction Plate,, o£ 115: soys, five furlongs. The two events over hurdles are worth 140 soys and 125 soys- respectively, the distance in each case being about one mile and a half.
