CHILDREN'S CONCERT
Nearly two hundred children took part in the annual concert of the Kilbirnie Convent School, which was held in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last night. Although the majority of the children were under 14 years of age they carried out their items in a way that would have done credit to many of the secondary schools. Much credit was due, however, to the Sisters of . Mercy at St. Patrick's Con-vent,-who were responsible for the organisation, and production. All the children; assembled on the fltagefor, the opening chorus,- "Meeting of the Waters" and again at the end o£ the programme, when they sang "Queen of Angels." The infants rendered recitations and songs, while the older boys and girls took part in playettes, sash drill, and singing. "Irish Eyes," a song and dance number by P. Ashbolt, and a hornpipe' dance by P. Smith and M.' Penman were cleverly executed, earning well-merited applause. Perhaps the most striking feature of. the concert was the play "Fanchette," in which the actors were all supposed to be dolls. The following took part in the piece: J. Maplesdon (Fanchette), B. Reader (golliwog), M. Edwards (tin soldier). A. Newson (teddy bear), L. M'Murrich (Chinese doll), P. Smith (snowflake), M. M'Nee (Sarah Jane), ' and A. Calnan (nurse). The following appeared in a humorous play entitled "A Bad Quarter of an Hour": M. Leigh (Mr. Watkins), J. Hayworth. (child Rose),' P. Player (Mrs. Tomkins), and P. Edwards (maid).-
