The Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) was to have returned to Wellington to-day, but on reaching Palmerston North this morning he received advice of the death of Mrs. Bansom's mother, and it became necessary for him to roturn to Dannevirke. Mr. Hansom will probably return to Wellington on Thursday. The Minister of Labour (the Hon. S. G. Smith) left for Plymouth this afternoon. He is to speak on the unemployment problem at Wanganui on Thursday night, and at Matamata on Friday night. It is probable that he will address a meeting at Auckland on Saturday night. The Minister of Kailways (the Hon. W. A. Veitch) returned to Wellington from Wanganui last night. ■ The Hon. W. H. M'lntyre, M.L.C., will be a passenger on the Maori for the South this evening. Dr. G. W. Harty goes South by the Maori this evening. Dr. E. Gordon Anderson leaves Wellington this evening for Dune din to attend on Thursday the annual general meeting of the College of Surgeons of Australasia. Sir Francis Boys, managing director of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, returns to Christchureh by the Maori this evening. -~ At a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Golf Association yesterday, Sir Alexander Boberts wag elected chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr. A. D. S. Duncan, vice-chairman. At the last meeting of the New Zealand University Senate the Degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical) was confirmed, and will be conferred upon Mr. T. T. N. Coleridge at the next Capping ceremony. Members of Parliament who are visiting Wellington at present are Messrs. F. Lye (Waikato), H. T. Armstrong (Christchureh East), J. N. Massey (Franklin), W. J. Broadfoot (Waitomo), and W. L. Martin (Baglan). Mr. T. B. Strong (Director of Education) is leaving for Napier to-mor-row on Departmental business, and will return to Wellington towards the end of tho week. . . . The High-Commissioner for New Zealand (Sir Thomas Wilford) has forwarded a letter to the Wellington Automobile Club stating that it was his desire to retain his membership of the club. At a meeting of the club's executive last night, it was decided to write to Sir Thomas thanking him for the interest he was displaying in the club.
