LAST YEAR'S CHAMPIONS
The annual meeting of the Wellington: Cricket Club was held last evening, when Mr. M. F. Luckie presided over an attendance of about 30 members.
In presenting the report and balancesheet, the chairman referred to the fact that the club won the senior championship last year for the first time since 1901, and he attributed the success of the team, to the outstanding play of the younger members. There was a splendid feeling of good fellowship in evidence in the club, which was one of the oldest in the Dominion, and had every reason to be proud o£ its traditions. A review of the past season was given by Mr. J. S. Hanna, who said that .a'fewseasons back it appeared possible that the club would lose its senior status, and many, players ■ were ready to transfer, to other clubs, which were- in a stronger position. Now, however, it was to be expected that many new members would want to'join! the club. '. Mr. D. Blundell, whose bowling in th» matches in which he took part, toward the close of the season, did much to bring the championship to the club, moved that the club's delegates be instructed to urge the Cricket Association to rule that a new ball should be used at the commencement o£ each innings in the club matches instead of from the start of each Saturday's play. Mr.'M. J. Crombie supported the present practice, which, he said, worked out very fairly, and the matter was referred to the club's management committee. . . ' A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers, particular mention being made of the club captain, A. M. Cousins, and the honorary secretary, C. H. Ham.
The following new members were nominated: Messrs. J. D. Willis, S. Neale, J. L. Hopkins, Elliott, Robertson, Mules, Nelson, Redwood, Symes, W. H. Smith, J. R. Page, and Captain K. Parkinson.
