PETONE FIRE BOARD

A meeting of the Petone Fire Board was held on Wednesday, Mr. D. M'Kenzie preS1 It "was decided to inform the local picture theatre proprietors that it was desirable that payment for firemen's services should be made direct to the board, which would pay the men. The establishment of a superannuation scheme was discussed, and while the board was favourable to it, it was thought that the matter should be dealt with at the next Fire Board's conference. Gaynor) was instructed to report on the possibility of having marks placed on the footpaths to denote the position ot fireIt was reported by tho superintendent that in the last quarter the brigade had been called out six times, one of which was a false alarm.- Plant, appliances, and alarm system were in first-class order. Drills had been carried out by the bngadesmen most satisfactorily, and all fires had been very smartly attended.
