TO KEEP THE PEACE
An order that the defendant must enter into a bond "of £50 as a.surety to keep the peace was made by, Mr. E. Page,. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today in a ease in which. William Jeffrey Lowe, social welfare officer of the Wellington Hospital Board, proceeded against Edward Ashby. It was alleged by the complainant that the defendant behaved in a threatening and offensive manner towards him. Mr. J. W. Ward, who appeared for the complainant,' said that, tho defendant had been unemployed arid had been receiving relief from the board. Ashby was one of a number who had been offensive to members of tho board. After an interview with Mr; Lowe the defendant was apparently dissatisfied ana said, "All right, Lowe, when I see you in tho street I will give you a 'dob' in the ear." . ; ■ Counsel said that tho board had had a lot of trouble lately with persons of that class. :•: _ Mr. J. B. Yaldwyn, who appeared tor Ashby, said that tho words were used in the heat of the moment; and Ash by had no intention of carrying out the threat. , • -. , Mr Page said that the .defendant was to understand that he must behave himself, and if he gave any; further trouble he. need not expect; such lenient treatment. :~ .. , :
