PAQUITO PLEASES

PAIR METROPOLITAN TRIAL

(From "Vedette.")

SYDNEY, 11th September.

Paquito, although he had 9.3 to carry in the eleven-furlong September Handicap at Canterbury on Saturday, had a very moderate lot to beat. Aided by a clear run through on the rails at the turn, following the leader Bosmina, he still had some leeway to make up fifty yards from the post. M' Carten rode him rather confidently, and Paquito won going away. Opinions varied as to the value of the performance as a Metropolitan trial, but it is evident that Paquito can be improved. F. D. Jones also started Duuraven, 8.11, in the Three-year-old Handicap. 3)unraven met with some trouble near the half mile. He lost his position, and was not knocked about to finish seventh. The winner, Algiers, carried 7.7, and led from post to post.
