OUR SEA DEPENDENCY.
Pointing ont an item of £150 on the Marine Department's Estimates for administration expenses of the Boss Dependency, Mr. E. J. Howard (Labour, Christehurch South) wanted to know in the House of Eepresentatives last night what it was for. "I have looked at the map, and I can't find anything in the Dependency that we can vote money for," he said.
A voice: "Perhaps it's for a police' man."
Mr. Howard: "If we had the Department 's report before us we would know where the policeman is stationed." The Minister of Marine (the Hon. J. B. Donald) said that a sum of £40 which was shown on the Estimates as having been spent last year was in connection with a representative of the Government who made a trip in one of the whaling vessels. "Voices: ""What for?" The Minister: "He got his wages in the ordinary way. That was extra expenditure." Mr. H. T. Armstrong (Labour, Christchurch East): "Was it for ice cream?"
