CRICKET

WELLINGTON CLUB'S SEASON

' It is recorded in the annual report ,of the Wellington Cricket Club, to be presented at the annual meeting to-morrow night, that for the first time since 1001 the club was successful in winning the senior championship. "The past season ■will be a memorable one for every player in the senior eleven," the report states. "In the first place great credit is due to the captain, K. A. Whyte, whose leadership inspired the team, with confidence and cheerfulness. Special mention must also be made of E. D. Bluudoll, whose brilliant bowling in the last three matches was largely responsible for three decisive victories. Every member o£ the team, however, played a definite part in bringing the season to a successful conclusion. The outstanding batsmen were A. M. Hollings and W. F. Airey, whose batting averages were 75.10 and 69.88 respectively. In the bowling department, E. D. Blundell secured 30 wickets, although he played in only four matches. The team was very, fortunate in having plenty of variety in the howling. In. past years the Wellington Senior eleven has been reproached wittrbad fielding. 'During the past season this department showed a marked improvement. The fielding_ generally, was sound, and at times brilliant. B. C. Wiren, in particular, proved himself one of the best slip-fields who has ever played for the club. He established what is probably a unique record in holding every slips catch which came his way. Last, and by no means least, the team pulled together, and was in every sense of the phrase a "happy team. The younger players are all showing steady improvement, and there is every justification for hoping that during the coining season the team will retain its position."

The junior A team had a very successful season, the junior. B team, after a great start, failed to come up to expectations: the junior C team made a fair showin;.', and the junior D team had- an enjoyable season despite the fact that it lost six of the eight games played.

With regard to social matches, the committee expresses the hope that the policy of tho club will, be continued this season, and a recommendation is alßo made that a club day be held —if possible on Labour Day.

A sub-committee Las're-drafted the rules of the club, which will be placed before the annual meeting for adoption.

The committee places on record its high appreciation pf, the. time and energy so unsparingly given by'the chairman und all members oi the, Wellington Cricket Association, and also expresses thanks to tho members nf the I'inpivrs' As^ocinlinn fur tlie.ii- unliiJliiiK at'i-viccs diu-iug th» .seu.sun.
