A GOOD TAX
(To the Editor.) Sir, —If you would allow me'as a,work* ing man to-give my thanks to the gentleman who lias stated'that a tax might bo arranged, which would cover any unemployment expenses, I will be much obliged. Now, the tax of'one penny per lb> on<sugar and 3d per lb on tea, this geu» tleman asserts, will bring a revenue through ; the Customs which will bo £800,000 and more annually. He rightly;1 states-that it would not interfere with! ' the breakfast table, for the people go to) tho pictures often and a penny or so onj sugar and tea would certainly not be felt. I am a working man, and do not get paid 'fov wet days or holidays, yet I can sea the revenue so derived would help along to give more men and women work during i winter time and at- any sleek period. 16 certainly is a better tax than that horricf poll tax of so much off salaries or as $ lump sum annually. I forgot the gentle* man's name. He has to do with banks. & am, etc., . . FOR •■
