WORKERS AND MEDICAL TESTS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—lii last night's "Post" a letter/ headed "Medical Tests" is published over, the signature oE'W. Allen in which the' writer, possibly in ; all good faith, seriously misrepresents the method under which, members are admitted to this union. He says: "As usual, the' well-paid council employees are up in arms at the proposal to have a medical test. . .' Now, Sir, these labour leaders know full well that the council proposal is not new. In fact the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union, has it in its preference.clause, and it is workable, as can be'vouched for by the officials."'. I waul; to assure Mi. Alien that no pro--vision for medical tests is contained in our award, nor has any such provision, been included in any previous .award affecting this union. Should such a condition of membership ever be imposed oa us in the future, Mr. Allen can take' i 6 from me that the members, of this union, will resist it just as vigorously ,as thd "well-paid council employees", are doing, and in my own opinion quite rightly, 014 this occasion,—l am, etc., ■ .'. J. 0. JOHNSON, Secretary, ■ Waterside Workers' Uniou. Ist. May. . '■ ,
