(By Telegraph.—-Proas Association.) AUCKLAND, Ist May. In advancing a claim for approximately £350 brought by Josephine 'Wilson Smith, widow, of Auckland, against the Hon. O. F. Nelson, the well-known Samoan merchant, in respect to damages alleged to have been caused to" a residence in Eemuera during the.latter's occupancy of it, counsel for .the .plaintiff, Mr. Adams, said that mattresses had been damaged and silverware ha"d been placed under the house. When recovered it was covered with verdigris. For evidence of * vandalism it would bo hard to find anything, worse than that. Mr. Skelton' protested that the story that was being related and the one that would bo toli for the- defence would reveal that the matter was purely politi- B cal to damage his client. Mr. Adams denied that he was.in any way concerned, with politics. Mr. M'Kean: "I cannot see! how politics enter into the matter. I have seen the house. It was in a shocking stato the day I saw it." Evidence was given by plaintiff and other witnesses relative to the state of the house before and after Nelson's tenancy, and the case, which maj 1 last another two days, was then adjourned.
