PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
At a largely-attended meeting of .the Wellington Philharmonic Orchestra last night members pledged themselves by unanimous resolution to give enthusiastic support to the new organisation and its conductor, }v both attendance and performance. ■ ■ It was reported that .the constitution was in course of preparation in proper legal form, and that it would,be presented for adoption at a general' meeting of members shortly. The election of officers was deferred accordingly. After some discussion arising1 :'out of a notice of motion .given since the annual meeting, the previous decision that the orchestra be conducted under the auspices of the Wellington Musicians' Union was rescinded. It will, therefore be styled the Wellington Philharmonic Orchestra, and it will have no connection with, the union. ' '■'-.' The statement of accounts in connection with the.concert given at the Town Hall on 12th April in aid of. musicians who have been deprived of work by the advent of the "talkies" showed a balance of about £50 available for distribution.
