EXAMINATION RESULTS

Delegates to the New Zealand Hockey .Referees' Association -held their annual meeting last evening, Mr. -R. L- C. Aitehisoii presiding. The Taranaki, Feilding, and Southland Associations were granted affiliation, bringing the membership:up to fourteen. The adoption of the annual report was moved by the chairman, who said he con sidered the association' was doing much to standardise the interpretation of rules, and also the control of the game. .It was only by having a controlling body with an interpretation board, that the minor associations could come into line with the major associations so far as rulings and interpretations were concerned.. The Management Committee suggested that there was a possibility that within a- short'! time interpretations would be fairly uniform throughout New Zealand. Uniformity was, essential for the'success of the game. "It was pleasing to notice that three more associations had affiliated, and it was hoped that before the close of the seasou other associations would be brought to see the advantages of linking up with the parent body. The question,of grading would have to be finalised by'the execu tive; in the meantime, said Mr. Aitchison, he thought the executive should have the right to appoint referees for Shield and inter-provincial fixtures and matches with overseas teams. Mr. J. W. Russell seconded, the motion He paid a tribute to the work of Mr. C. B. Lye, chairman of the -.. Management Committee, whose consideration for the welfare of the minor associations had beeti most marked. Outlining the work of the Management Committee;, Mr. Russell said that it had decided that the theory examination should be held annually, and that the matter of expediting the practical examination should be gone into. Grainger. -'' On the motion 'of Mr. Russell, it was decided to recommend the Management Committee* to ensure that the Examination Committee carried out its duties more systematically than in the past. The .question of a separate New Zed land .Ladies' Hockey Referees' Association was discussed at.; some length. It was resolved eventually to ask the N.Z.L.H.A. for information regarding any o.f its affiliated associations having referees' organisa tions cpnnected with them which were not affiliated .with the N.Z.H.R.A. ' Mr. Butcher gave notice of his intention to. move at the next.general meeting that no person other than a classified senior referee should occupy an executive position on the association. • The Management Committee was empowered to prepare a referees' handbook embodying rules, interpretations, particu l.ars concerning examinations, and other information likely to be of ' value to referees.
