ASSOCIATION

LOCAL MANAGEMENT

MATCH WITH CANTERBURY

." A' meeting' of. the Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association was held last evening, Mr. W. 13. Hicks presiding. Also present were Messrs. G. Aers, F. Mackie, L. Mellor, J. Kean, H. Spolskyj J. M. Colernah, N. Brian, W. Fraser, H. Power, and B. As! Mabin (secretary). ■ ■• '■*■■. '.' Mr. IRcks said he had inspected the Stadium ground in company with the chairman of the Grounds Company, and a further • meeting would be held. The Swifts Club, because of their, seniority, are to be allowed to retain their colours- in a match against Hutt. - A game is to be given a team frbm the Tutanekai against a city club when the vessel- is in port. The Seatoun' Club has withdrawn its seventh grade team, and an additional eighth grade team has been entered. '. The Canterbury Football Association stated, that it had invited a team from the West Coast on' 3rd June to play at Christchurch. No reply has been received from the West Coast, and if the offer was declined two teams from Wellington, senior representatives : and a • fourth grade representative team,' would be received^ The 'fourth grade team, said Mr. Mabin, had been included on the suggestion of the Junior Management Committee. Y.M.C.A.'s CHANGE OF NAME. The secretary of the V.M.C.A.' wrote stating that negotiations had been in pro-, gress some time between the association md the V.M.C.A. Soccer teams.: The play-, srs in these teams, were not bona fide ."members of-the V.M.C.A., and efforts had been made to bring them into member: ship. A proposal had been submitted to the'players in which the directors of the V.M.C.A. would, subsidise the Soccer seams, thus giving their official support to the game and easing the financial obligation of the individual player. This, howaver, was unacceptable'- to • the ■ players, with the result, that apart from boys' teams, the association woufifibe unable to place any teams in the field this season. It had been explained by the Soccer Com ; mittee that during the progress of the negotiations the committee had entered two teams, as they. wished to maintain their organisation this, fieason'. The association. -had1 no desire to prejudice, these teams,- although the registrations were made without the knowledge or authority' of the V.M.C.A., and it had been made quite clear that the name, and colours of the V.M.C.A: must be.dropped. The committee stated -that there was some'technical difficulty involved in changing the name prior to the opening of the season. The V.M.C.A. would continue its interest in the game, but it had been decided 'as a matter, of. policy to start over again with boys' teams, and thus build for the future. The V.M.C.A, Club stated that it desired to change the name of the club to •W:Y.M.I., meaning the' Wellington Young Men's Institute, at present running two Soccer teams as well' as a number of cricket teams. It was the intention "of the W.Y;M.I. to become an incorporated body. The reason for the change was the •necessity of including some outsiders, as there was a lack of Veinforcement from the lower grade teams., The:football club had always'been self-supporting, and the. position,, except for; the change of name, would be.practiqaljy unaltered. The footballers had decided to keep together and endeavour to form a strong club. Menibers agreed that..'there could be no objection to the change of name; but the question';qf'.(:olours was more difficult. It wast stated'.';-that V.M.C.A.. were said to pfoject-!a change of; colours. If the present V.M.C.A. attained senior status there would be two clubs with the same'colours. It was finally decided to agree to the change of name, and the colours could be retained for this year. The: following transfers were agreed to:—W. J. Tredrea, from Lower Hutt to Brooklyn; J. W. Mackie, from V.M.C.A. to Diamond; E. M'Queen, from Brooklyn to Diamond; A. S. Bridge, from Thistle to V.M.C.A.; S. J:. Guppy, from Seatoun to V.M.C.A.; F. J.
