CROQUET
The closing day of the'Newtown Croquet Club was favoured by beautiful weather. The competitions were begun early in the day; The winners were as follow:—-Squares, Mrs. JJoasby; breaks, Mrs. Puddle; frenck, Mrs. Fabian; golf, Miss M'l^enzie; angles, Mrs. Press; hurry scurry, Mrs. Booth and Miss M'Kenzie; points, Miss Bemmington. Mrs. Bae, on behalf. of the club, handed to Miss Petorsen (president) a token of" appreciation. Missj Petersen then presented the prizes for, the various club events as follows:—, Cup donated by Mrs.. Underwood for, top of B ladder, Miss M'Kenzie; runi ner-up, Mrs. Woodham. Mrs. Meeks'* trophy (for top of C ladder), Mrs. Abeifcrombie; runiior-up, Miss1 Pulton. Mrs. Robbin's trophies (breaks B and C lapders), Misses M'Kenzie, and Fultoii. Mrs. Press's trophy (for hour gams), Mrs. Woodham. Afternoon tea served in tho pavilion was presided over by Mrs. Stephcnson. The, Eastbourne Croquet Club's closing a ly for the season, was marked by much enthusiasm. In presenting the prizes for club competitions the. president (Mrs. .Hl' Mert Jones) referred to the excellent record of club teams and individual members in inter-club competitions during the seasbn. In the intermediate grade the club was a .dose fourth, only 13 points behind the winners (Wellington), whose aggregate points were 382. Mrs. Bobinson won the intermediate champion of champions '. singles, the . intermediate break competition, and was runner-up in the ladies' level singles at the Wellington Association's tournament. Her win in the break competition was an outstanding performance, for in qualifying for tho actual competition her aggregate of 36 was twice as great as that of the next to qualify. Two of the five players who qualified for this competition wore members of the Eastbourne Club, the other being tho socretary, Mrs. Heenan. The winners of the various club contests . during tho season were as follow:—lntermediate singles, Mrs. Bobinson. B grade singles, Mrs. Bichards,' Doubles, Mesdames Pollock' and Mallinson; runners-up, Mesdames Lewis and Palmer. During the day a. number of competitions were keenly contested, the winners being:—Angles, Mrs. Pilcher; hurry scurry, Mesdames Munro and Richards, and Mesdames JToley and Jones; golf, Mrs. Boekstrow; break, Mrs. Bobinson; take off, Mrs. Lewis.
