RETURNS ELSEWHERE

DUNEDIN, 30th April. 1 Customs returns for April, for the corresponding month ot last year, are as follow:— 1930. • 1929^ Customs duties 51,919 18 3 63,097 14 9 Beer duty .... 15,225 13 2 23,724 12 8 Tire tas 927 16 0 1,144 18 0 Petrol tax .... 10,037 6 4 : 7,590 0 0 AUCKLAND, 30th April. A feature of the Auckland Customs revenue returns continues to be the substantial decline in the amount levied on imported motor-car tires. During April it was £2048, or less than half the amount (£4210) received in April of last year. In the same periods the duty on motor spirits, however, advanced from £30,741 to £33,176. . . ~ The total Customs revenue, including both tire-and petrol taxes/collected during the first four months of the year, was £884,716, compared with £902,080, collected in the corresponding period m 1929. ~ About £18,000 of the decrease in in duties levied apart from motor spirits or tires, the net Customs representing £762,----293 in the first four months of last year and £744,000 in the first four months, of The net CWstoms revenue was £174,732 last month, compared with £195,663 in April, 1929. . CHRISTCHURCH, 30th April. The Customs duties. collected at Christchurch during April amounted to £78,----352, as against £89,491 for April, 1929. The figures for January to April, 1930, are £364,288 as against £371,750 for the same period last year. Beer duty for April; 1930, totalled £9173 (April, 1929, £8843). The January-April figures, 1930, were £30,249> (1929, £31,----119). The motor spirit tax for April, 1930,' was £15,100 (April, 1929, £11,348). The January-April figures, 1930, were £36,----176 (1929, £33,625).
