LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly ,meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held on- Monday evening. Sir A. F. Roberts (Mayor) presided, and there were ■ present Councillors .D. S.-Patrick, A.-E;< Carver, A. Grierson, A. J. Hobbs, and J. K. Boyd. Councillor A. M'Bainwas granted three months,' leave of absence on account of illness.•,-'.■:.- ■ • • . : Mr.. C. C. Odlin forwarded a petition protesting against. the changing of the name of Budlam crescent between Penrose street and Bellevue road on account of Mr., Ludlam's close association with the district. Petitions were also \ received from M. Marshall, and others and Mi's. Helen Allen-and others, protesting against the changing of the names, of streets associated -with old residents of the district. All .the .letters were 'referred to the Bylaws Committee., ■ ... ..Messrs. M'Laren and Nisbe.t applied for permission to.; erect, a hoarding on Don-. nelly's1 corner "to advertise a .land, sub-i 'division.'.■ Councillor Grierson' said he could not support the application on the ground that hoardings >'svefe unsightly, and if permission were, granted it would create a-precedent.-', On' the motion of Councillor Patrick the application wasf granted at a charge.'of £5 per quarter. ~■ The Finance Committee -reported that it considered a site for a northern fire station could be secured on the JNai.rvai Reserve, and that the-best site for a southern station would be near the junction, of "White's Line' and Hawkins |treet. The report was . sent forward to the 'Fire Brigades' Committee for its approval. -..•..'■■ ■■.■;■■ ; ■ ■■'■'• ■■ ■• Oh the motion of the Mayor, .the bal-ance-sheet for the* year ended 31st-March was approved. The; balance-sheet shows a credit'balance of £5601* as against £4890 brought forward-from .last year. Both receipts, arid,: expenditure'show-''an'. increase 6'vev the amounts estimated." , The council approved the following as a committee to control the Moera Hall: —G; Sutherland, C. Groome, —..M'Bvvan, H N Keene, F. Keene. and W. Burns.'
