ROTARY FLAG
CARRIED OVER' SOUTH POLE
The Botary flag "carried by Botarian Bear-Admiral Byrd in his flight over the South Pole was exhibited, amid foud applause, by Botarian President J. M. A. Ilott at the Wellington Botary Club's lune.heon. The flag, he said, was. one of notary's most treasured possessions, and would .alivays remind them of the great achievements of a great and modest man, who,, they, were proud to know, was himself a Eotarian. Asked if the flag was for the-. NewZealand Eotary District, Mr. Ilott said that ho thought it was.' . Mr. A. Fletcher • suggested that it might be presented-to the muse-um; but the proposition was greeted with a chorus of "No, no!" ■ Mr. Ilott: "Wo should, I think, keep it for Eotary." The Mayor suggested that the flag should be suitably inscribed. .....'. The president agreed, and the suggestion was received with acclamation. Sir Alexander Roberts stated that the flag had been presented to Admiral Byrd by the clubs of the district, and should therefore bo rogarded as belonging to the district as a whole, not to the Wellington Eotary Club only. Those present, in honour of the return of the flag, then sang the chorus of "Marching Through Georgia."
