SEVERE STORM
DAMAGE BY LIGHTNING
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. ■■ Lightning destroyed a chimney, put electrical appliances out of action, and caused "considerable alarm when the most severe thunderstorm for a immber of years passed over the city and suburbs shortly after two o'clock yesterday, afternoon. ■The storm reached its height as it passed over Bemuera, and a vivid flash xi .-lightning struck a chimney' of the residence of: Mr. W. W. Dove, of. Victoria ■avenue, shattering the top. Bricks crashed through the tile roof, which broke their impetus sufficiently to prevent them penetrating the ceiling. A large oak tree in Mr. Dove's grounds was stripped of its leaves as the lightning played about the house and garden. A motor-cyclist in Victoria avenue was also thrown from his machine, but escaped injury. Occupants of shops and offices in the vicinity of Queen street were considerably startled by the flashes of lightning and heavy thunder, iwhich seemed to crash over the tops of city, buildings.
