PROPOSED RAMP TAX

CITY AND MAKAEA STAND OUT

The conference of local bodies which met at Petone some weeks ago and drew up'a scheme for the taxation of motorists as a contribution towards the cost of a, ramp over the Petoue railway crossing, at tho same time asked each local body to pass a resolution asking for legislation to authorise such taxation. According to information laid before tho Upper Hutt Borough Council last night, the necessary resolution was passed by the Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Eastbourne, Hutt County, and Petone Councils, the Petone Council adding the proposal that the fee for heavy vehicles should bo increased to the same as that for motor-cars (from Is t<s 3s 6d); the Johnsonviile Town Board had not replied; the Wellington City Council and the Makara County Council had declined to pass tho resolution.
