DARING THEFT

HANDBAGS STOLEN FROM HOUSE

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Tivo ladies' handbags containing £13 were stolen from the home of Mr. J. Hayea at Epsom on Monday evening by an intruder who broke into the houso while a card party was in progress in the front of the house. j The theft was an audacious one. A diamond ring in one of the bags was later recovered. \ . There were ten persons in the 'house at the time when the robbery was committed, all of them being in the front room, the blinds of which were not drawn. The rear of the house was in darkness, and the intruder apparently went down a side path from the gate to the back door, which was not locked, and walked straight into the house. The two handbags, both empfy, were found on the lawn a short distance from the back door, and . near them was a diamond ring valued at £60 which liad been in. one of the bags.
