SPEEDWAY MATTERS
A suggestion is made by a correspondent (R. J. Fox) that, with a view to preventing interference with motor-cycles ■belonging to people ; attending the Speedway,' a section of land adjacent to the Stadium should be taken over and used as a parking place. A small charge of sixpence or a shilling, it is suggested, could be made for having motorcycles parked in the enclosure. With regard to the manner in which races are conducted at the Speedway another correspondent ("Fair Play") urges that for the heats "the names of the competitors should be drawn, or at least the riders seeded, in a (air and, impartial manner." The correspondent also draws kttention to the fact that all riders do not keep inside the white pegs, and, as a case in point, mentions the recent final of the Golden Helmet. "In any other sport a competitor would be disqualified for travelling inside the' Course proper," states the correspondent. "It is the practice in Australia to disqualify a rider for a breach such as the one committed, One of the arts of dirt-track racing is to ride as close as possible to the inner edge of the track so as to place i the following riders at a disadvantage. If a'i'ider is capable of such riding, I fail to see why he should be deprived of his superior knowledge."
