GARDEN PARTY AT HUTT

Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Patrick lent the grounds of their residence, Wainui road, Lower Hutt, on Saturday, for a garden party in aid of St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church.' Sir Alexander Boberts, K.8.E., Mayor of tho borough, opened the fete in glorious weather,'and warmly praised the kindness of the host and hostess in. granting the use of their garden for the cause, and their assistance to the organisers. Delightful music was rendered by the Lower Hutt Brass Baud. There seemed to be no end, to the negageinents ■ provided. Croquet and tennis interested large parties of enthusiasts;, a pony delighted the children, who clamoured for rides; there were games requiring skill; and stalls from", which home-made cakes, preserves, sweets, novelties, garden produce and flowers, afternoon tea, and ices were procurable. Mr. Kersley organised the sports, which wero such an important feature of the proceedings. Stalls were supervised .by the following ladies: —Cakes, Mrs. H. Shearer; sweets, Mrs. Wilson; produce, Mrs. Ferguson; novelty, Mrs. Jensen; ice creams, Mrs. Carnie. Afternoon . tea was served by Miss Allen, with a number of helpers. The members of the Ladies' Guild are to be congratulated on the success of the party. '
