EXCAVATION AT JERICHO

(Eeeeived 20th February, 1 p.m.) ; LONDON, 19th February!

The "Daily Mail's" Jerusalem coiv respondent states that the Marston expedition has now probed the lowest in* terior of the great mound of Jericho^ locating neolithic floors and hearths sixteen feet under the surface. There are indications of a great stone rampart, including a citadel, which covered ten acres, but the site was levelled after the city's destruction. In 1600 B.C. fresh: walls were built enclosing the smaller area. Dr. Garstang is now tracing these lines of defence. The excavation is expected to prove o$ great Biblical interest.
