At the Mansion House banquet last night in connection with the British Industries Fair,, which opened in London and Birmingham yesterday, the Duke of York suggested that the scope and utility of the Pair, which was growing year by year, should be further extended. He congratulated the Government on having appointed a Committee to inquire whether other trades might not avail themselves of the advantages of the Fair. The personnel of the now Committee of twelve members, of which Lord Chelmsford is chairman, was announced in the House of Commons last night. It has already held its first meeting. The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of York and Princess Mary, paid a visit to-day to the British Industries Fair. , Her Majesty made purchases at over one hundred stalls, and expressed her appreciation of the cleverness of the design and workmanship of many of the exhibits. At the stand of the Ministry of Agriculture she spent a long time examining the market produce sold under the national market scheme. She expressed the opinion that the Government were performing a real services to the public by the scheme, as housewives had a guarantee that they were buying home-produced goods. The scheme was also a real help to agriculture.
