MARRIED WOMEN
EMPLOYMENT AS TEACHERS

AUCKLAND, This Day.
The question of the employment oi! married women teachers is now being considered by the Education Committee, which is expected to make a recommendation of policy to the Education Department shortly. This advice was conveyed to the Auckland Education Board yesterday by: the Hon. H/ Atmore (Minister of Education). The Minister's reply was to a coin-j munication from the board regarding the allowing of discretionary powers by education boards in appointing married women. Advice from the Department said that Mr. Atmore had approved of legislation to give , education boards .dis-! cretionary power. , He was, however, not able;to introduce the necessary I amendment last session of Parliament. The chairman of the board, Mr. A. Burns, remarked that a letter from the j New Zealand Women Teachers'_ Association'said, the'association, was in favour of the appointment of married women; y.-v ■ ■ '■■ < ' , -. .-■ ■•'■
