Four riders were close together on a corner;when Casey, who was riding second, slipped during a broadside and fell. -Although somewhat dazed, Jie ■ struggled to his knees. At that moment •A. Mattson, immediately behind him, -went sliding along on the inside in an endeavour to avoid a collision. Apparently the knee-grip on the right of Mattson's machine struck Casey, for lie fell back unconscious. Mattson's motor, now out of control, collided violently with the other ma- : chine and turned over. The rider was thrown, in. a series of somersaults ten yards along the track. For a moment 'he lay where he had fallen, but before the ambulance men- reached him he struggled to his feet-unhurt except for a shaking. Another rider, C. Spinks, ■went into a slide when he saw the.accident and managed to pass safely. Casey was still'.lying-'on-the track beside the wrecked machine.
