At the Wanganui district swimming championships to-night, L. Smith, of tho Gonvillo Club, tho prosent New Zealand champion breaststroko swimmer and record-holder, was successful in bettering his New Zealand record of 3 mm 4sec for tho 220 yds by 2seo. Smith had no assistance from his opponents, and swam very easily. He received a great ovation. In view of a possible race between Smith . and Sylow, of Auckland, the Wanganui swimmer's performance .was especially] pleasing.
