POLITICAL ASSOCIATION
At the monthly committee meeting of the New Zealand Political Association, liekl on Tuesday, the president (Mr. Edwin Salmond) reported that the membership of the association continued to increase rapidly, tho numerical strength in Wellington, alone being now in the vicinity of 1000 members, a most gratifying result .-when it was borne in mind that the association had only been in, active operation for about six months. This, he considered, sufficiently 'manifested tho desiro of electors to support tho main objects of the association, ■ viz., to oppose legislation of an extreme Socialistic character and to promote the candidature for and return to Parliament? of persons best qualified to* represent the public, irrespective of whether they wore independents or supporters of the United or Reform parties.
The secretary submitted a summary of' the work achieved in enrolling members in the various city electorates,arid mentioned that in response to applications steps were being taken to form branches of tho association,'"in the other chief centres. .
