A DESERVING OBJECT

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—l am writing to you,in full assurance that you will find space for this lettor. As I lie here abed in hospital with day closing in, the : headphones at my ears, listening to the broadcasting of a delightful programme from 2YA, I am happily placed to assess the value of this wonderful service from the Hospital patients' point of view. This induces me to appeal to your readers to support by their patronage, the garden fete which haa been, promoted by the Red Cross Society for the purpose of raising £200", so that the patients at the Ewart Hospital may enjoy the wireless. ■:

. Words .inadequately express the: pleasure patients experience per medium of radio. The programmes broadcasted are wide, varied, and of a high, standard. Why, even to hear over the air the chimes of the dear-old Post Office clock has its ckanns.- As we listen to it, we mingle in thought with the busy throng in and around the environ of the Post Office, fervently praying that we, tdo, niay soon be restored to take our, place among those who are contributing to the city's welfare and advancement. When that day comes I am sure that, as busy as we may be, we shall find time to spare a thought for those who by sickness or accident • are conr fined to hospital. . , '

The garden fete is being held on Saturday next, the 22nd instant, and I wish the promoters .unqualified success, a fine day, and a public patronage, with a disposition to give,- such as has been rarely witnessed in Wellington. The fete, presents an opportunity to all citizens'to give tangible evidence of a real concern for the Hospital and'to patients.—l. am,1 etc., ■ ' ' « ' i .A PATIENT. Wellington Hospital, ' ' ■ . '- .. . ISth February/ ' ; •'■•,
