BODIES POUND IN SNOW BANK

(Received ISth February, 1 p.m.) NOME (Alaska), I7th February.

The frozen bodies of Carl Ben Eielson and Earl Borland were found buried in the snow bank where they were /hurled as their 'plane crashed on 9th November near the North Cape. Eielson and his mechanic wero returning with a cargo of furs from the Siberian coast, when a fog intervened. Evidently their altimeter, falsely registered a thousand feet off the ground when at full speed thoy crashed into a snow mound, scattering the engine parts and fuselage over half an acre, killing both men instantly. A sum amounting to £50,000 has been spent by the United States and Canadian Governments searching, and the Soviet officials rendered valuable assistance, having 18 workmen digging vthc snow when the bodies were uncovered.
