MELBOURNE, This Day.

The Norwegian cargo steamer Toranger, which arrived here with a cargo of 8000 tons of English coal, had a narnow escape of disaster owing to a fire in her bunkers, in which 1700 tons of coal were placed at Durban. All hand* not actually needed for the management of the ship were engaged for many hours fighting the outbreak, wnich':was overcome after 2000 tons of coal were brought on deck from the bunkers."
