REMARKABLE DESIGN

British Official Wireless.

(Keceived 17th February, 11 a.m.)

EUGBY, 16th .February.

The motorist, Mr. Kaye Don, is leaving London for Daytona, Florida, next week in preparation for an attempt to beat the existing world's laxid speed record of 231 miles an hour held by Sir Henry Segrave. Mr. Don is extremely satisfied with the "Silver Bullet," tho car specially' constructed at Sunbeam. Works, Wolverhampton, for the attempt. It is of remarkable design, among its features being an air brake, resembling an aeroplane rudder, with, which the car will be slowed down before the "-ordinary brakes are applied, thus reducing the skid danger. It also has an ice tank through which the water will pass to prevent overheating. The car has two 12-cylinder engines, running at the remarkable rate of 4000 re olutions a minute, , Each engine weighs less than 10001b, yet each' develops 2000 horsepower, an engineering achievement never before equalled, Mr. Don says that beach tests show that the car can do 275 miles an hour, but he expects to lose 25 milea an hour travelling and will be satisfied with 240 or 250 miles at Daytona.
