CALL FOR CRUSADE

WAR UPON BOLSHEVIKS

POWER OF THE POPE

LONDON, 17th February.

Mr. Shaw Desmond, the Irish novelist and publicist, in- a much-displayed streamer-headlined special article in the "Sunday Express," asks, "Are we about to see a call for a new war of crusaders against Bolshevik Russia? I believe we are. Stalin, ruthless dictator of a tiny four minority of a quarter of a million, which holds 140 million Russians in its grip, which slaughters priests at the altar and worshippers in the churches, has made his first vital mistake that may lead to the destruction of tho Soviet Republic. He may find as others have done that no antagonist is to bo so dreaded as a united Christendom. The Christian churches of tho wholo of Europe at this monient are finding a common platform cause. What Stalin and his fellow tyrants have not realised is that however disunited they may think the world outside Russia the world is still united in upholding mankind V right to worship God in its own way. The Pope is no longer a prisoner in the Vatican; he is the suprejne controller of the largest international church on earth, and has only to make an appeal to bring millions to tho new crusade from all over the world. Moscow has stirred up forces which it will not be able to allay.' '
