The New Zealand-bred gelding Southern Crosd staged a dazzling finish to win his third pony cup at Sydney yesterday when he carried ott the Ascot Gold Cup. '■■ : ,•■• ,

Southern Cross is the ex-New Zealand eeldlnz Covent Garden, by Absurd —Cherry Mart. H« was bred by Mr. G. M. Currie, and raced In the Dominion in the 1926-27 season with moderate success. He was sold to an Australian buyer at the end of that season, and his name was changed to Southern Cross He won several races soon after his arrival, but his connection* clashed "^wlth tHe authorities, with the result that ho was absent from the tracks for some time. __
